Which do you think is better for Sonic CD the Japanese or the American soundtrack. I like the US soundtrack more (mostly because of stardust speedway), although sometimes I like the JAP music in certain stages and times more (like in Metalic Madness). This is not because I own the Gems verion of the game. It would be cool if they made a version of the game that plays the US music in zone 1 of every level, JAP in the second zone, and maybe a mix between both for zone 3, and for the bosses the US version plays if you're in the bad future and the JAP for good future. Or a menu that lets you select which version you would like to hear for each zone.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again!
I think I should digress here and give my opinion on the American vs Japanese soundtracks for Sonic CD. I grew up with the American soundtrack, so I'm partial to it. It's second to Masa's tracks as my favourite Sonic music ever. But I also like the Japanese soundtrack a whole lot. Somehow it's easier for people who started with the American soundtrack to accept the Japanese one, because in effect, the American soundtrack contains a quarter of the Japanese one to begin with - the Past musics. Since the Japanese soundtrack is mostly variations on the Past musics, it feels natural and not alien at all. It was a lot of fun to hear it for the first time. But for people who started with the Japanese soundtrack, going to the American one must be difficult, and I can see their point. I actually think, even though I like the music more in the American soundtrack, the Japanese one fits the levels better. ...Both have their strengths...we should be thankful that we get so much music out of just one game!

I wondered when THIS topic would be created eventually, every sonic site seems to get the same question at some point in time.

For me I'm very pleased with both regions, they fit the levels nicely yet have their own respected themes, and a lot of people will argue the case that Japanese/European is better regardless, while a few percentage will argue the opposite. The way almost everything is done, evolves around opinion.

The Japanese/European has a sort of "In your face, with attitude", which fits along side rap, rave and D'n'B, these genres tend to use funky and strange sounds which are pleasing to the ear, also baring in mind that this was the sort of theme you'd expect to hear during the time of 1993.

The USA soundtrack seems to fit more of a late 80's pop/rock style, for those who are very fond of 80's music, this would be more up their street, and relating to the fact that it sounds like it uses real instruments as opposed to the JAP/Euro soundtrack which has more of a mixing scenario, makes it feel more real I guess, like something you'd expect to hear on the radio.

I prefer the JAP/Euro soundtrack simply because I'm more of an early 90's rave fan, so that pretty much sums it up, however I like to listen to the USA version from time to time (Well, it doesn't sound shit by any means).
